Does Cropper work in WINE on Linux (I'm using Ubuntu 10.10)? I want a very simple screen capture to clipboard without dialog. "Shutter" on Ubuntu is insanely complex. Cropper on Windows is brilliant.

there should be a setting to hide the ui during a capture. it was added for vista and may not have auto enabled in 7. please give that a try.

I have been using the Cropper application for a long time, but it appears to have changed its behaviour since I changed to Windows 7.

The Cropper window has the save type (BMP/Clipboard/JPEG/PNG/Printer) in the top left corner, a cross in the center, and the window resize corner image in the bottom right corner.

My problem is that these three elements now appear in the copied image; they did not appear previously. Can you advise how to eliminate these elements, so that only the 'clean' image is saved?

This discussion along with the changelog mentions how to use Cropper in a portable format.

I'm mostly interested in using more portable apps so as to not bog down the registry and the user AppData.

So how can I get the Cropper executables to run portably without first installing them?

FWIW I tried using lessmsi to peak inside the CropperSetup.msi that's included in the downloaded zip file, but the tool failed to work on the MSI.

Cropper is dependent on a 32-bit assembly and has to be compiled as x86. I removed the other platform options so this shouldn't be an issue going forward. The change is in http://cropper.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/changes/86918. Also, it looks like Brian updated the project to Visual Studio 2010.

Hi Terry,

I'm having a strange problem. I've downloaded your lasted source code and try to run on my vs2008 under an Windows 7 with 64bits...

It's compiling ok. but when I run it's saying that's not a valid win32 aplication...

I Could not understand why this is happing because the setup build 1.9.4 is working all right!!!

I've already tried to download older versions and the problem is the same...
I've copied the error bellow to show you the problem, the second line is in portuguese but translating means:

After trying it for a few minutes, I find it very disappointing (don't worry, ZScreen was much, much worse).

So far, I've seen:

1. Printed output isn't scaled so you can't see large screen or multiple monitor contents on page (i.e. you can't use Cropper to print the screen)

2. Printer dialog often appears beneath other windows, even if Always on Top is checked (WIn7 Pro x64)

3. Hotkeys work and fail for no apparent reason

4. Option Use Cropper to Save PrintScreen images doesn't do anything like it sounds (what the heck does it do?)

5. Why is there a checkbox for leave image on Clipboard and an output option for Clipboard? Seems like a design flaw lurking somewhere...

Back to writing my own...

I have a similiar issue on multiple Windows 7 x64 machines when I run the latest build from source 64456.

It crashes at startup. When installed from the latest compiled version, it works.

Not sure why that would be happening. Is there any other information you can provide? Did you know that it may start in the system tray, look for a square white icon with a black plus in the middle, or press F8.

I installed cropper on windows 7 home premium 32-bit. When I launch it, it does effectively nothing. No running app, no error message. I'll check the event log, but anything I need to do?

Thanks! I'm an out-of-practice developer (now in technical consulting rather than writing code) so setting up a dev environment and building isn't worth the time.

If anyone just happens to have a built .exe with the patch... :) Otherwise I'll monitor the site.

Don't feel stupid, it's a source code patch created with Subversion. It's meant for developers. You can download the Cropper source code, apply the patch, and recompile. The developers of this project should take care of it and release a new version.
